Here are 10 tips to use open camera and unlock the phone’s camera to its true potential….

If you think that your phone’s camera app can do a lot, you’ll be surprised that Android lets you do much more with the Camera2 API. But, third party apps like OPEN CAMERA is required to fully experience the features the phone’s camera is capable of… Open Camera is such one app that is completely free of cost and ads and in app purchases..

What can OPEN CAMERA do ???

Camera Stabilization

Open Camera cleverly implements Camera Stabilization by using the  Accelerometer to show the angle at which the camera is tilted. This virtual spirit level can be used to adjust the grip so that photos and videos shoot at perfect level. To use it, just look for the readings on the bottom  left corner of open camera’s  screen.

Detect Faces not Objects 

Enable face detection in the settings menu and let the camera focus on the faces that are recognized in the frame rather than having to manually select the focal points. This make it easier to shoot portraits and not having to worry about person going out of focus.

Use Volume Keys to Take a Picture

Open Camera allows to customize the volume keys to perform various actions. Head over to Settings>more camera controls and set the behavior for the volume keys. The volume keys can be used to take a photo, toggle video recording, adjust the focus, zoom in/out, change exposure level and toggle auto stabilization. So fly through the app with the volume controls to take better images, faster.

Control Camera with Voice

Set the camera to automatically take pictures or start recording videos when a word like ” cheese ” is set or set it to respond to loud noises. This will be handy when trying to take a groupie.

Adjust Audio Sensitivity

Not all the environments used to record videos are same, some be noisy making it difficult to record videos unless the phone’s mic adapts automatically. Therefore. the sensitivity of the microphone can be adjusted manually to suit the environment. Head over to Audio control options to increase or decrease sensitivity. 

Lock Photo/Video Orientation

When video is shot, the Internet will collectively groan if it is shot in portrait. If their is a problem with the orientation when the phone is rotated then, just lock the the orientation to landscape regardless of how the device is oriented. Or always record in portrait and endure the collective hate. Set the orientation under “More camera controls” in settings.

Save Photos Wherever Wanted

To save the valuable memory space in the device, set Open Camera to store images in external storage or memory (memory card). Change the “Save Location” to any folder on the phone that the app has write access to. The names of the files that Open Camera saves on the phone can be customized by adding a prefix for video and photo separately. This would make the life easier by reducing the frequency of manually organizing photos or videos.

Mark the Photos and Videos Based on when you took them

Stamps on photos and videos with date and time and even location embed if the permissions are granted. This will help to catalog the photos better and remember the context to photo when reminiscing the green and salad days. Add the time stamps in any format and custom  text and even customize the style of text.

Customize How the Screen Looks when Using the App

The user interface can be customized for left handed  / right handed people and toggle various controls using setting  options.

Burst Mode

Burst mode allows to take photos in rapid manner to capture memories that are too fast to frame and compose to a picture.It can take 2-10 pictures continuously or can even continuously take pictures till the shutter button is pressed which fills the storage very fast.

Open Camera comes with a lot more features than the stock camera and is useful for users who want complete control over taking photos. As with other third – party camera apps, exposure, ISO, resolution, frame rate, timer, color effect, HDR, flash and white balance can be manually controlled with this too. Note that the app may not be supported on all phones as it relies on Google’s latest camera API. Check if your phone is running the latest version of  Android available and keep your Google Services updated for optimal usage…..
