Nowadays, the climate of the world is changing as frequently as the weather used to change. This is a result of Global Warming and of course wrong human practices. No one is ready to take care of the environment and nature other than the true activists and environmentalists. The others just work to undo the positive changes these activists bring by increasing pollution and deforestation. To build their homes and places people destroy the natural habitats – the trees.
To fight against this and create awareness, the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria has been transformed into a forest of alder, aspen, field maple , white willow, and common oak. This project was taken by artist Klaus Littman in an attempt to make people aware of climate changes and deforestation. His vision was inspired by Max Peintner’s artwork ‘For Forest – The Unending Attraction of Nature’ with the intention of telling people that soon in the future nature will be found in specially designated areas only.
It is Austria’s largest public art installation. It took them around 22 days (from 8 September to 27 October 2019) to plant these trees. They contacted three nurseries – 1 in Germany, Italy and Belgium each. This project was partly funded by sponsors who each contributed €5,000, it was open to the public free of charge daily from 10 am to 10 pm CET. Austria Klagenfurt home matches were temporarily shifted from their home ground to the adjacent Karawankenblick Stadion. The trees were replanted in locations near the campus following the exhibition’s conclusion.
Some 300 trees, many of which are fully grown and some of which weigh nearly 13,227 pounds alone were planted to develop a forest in collaboration with Enea Landscape Architecture.
